Learning to Believe in Myself

My teacher believed in me at a time when I wasn’t sure what I was capable of. That belief helped change how I saw myself and what I thought was possible.

My Teacher

I didn’t always walk into the classroom feeling confident. I showed up, did the work, and tried my best, but I wasn’t sure where I fit or what I was good at yet.

One teacher noticed before I did. They paid attention, encouraged me, and spoke about my potential as if it was already real. They didn’t wait for proof. They believed first.

That belief stayed with me. It changed how I showed up and how willing I was to raise my hand, try something new, or take myself seriously. What started as encouragement slowly became confidence.

I still think about that often. A few words at the right time can shift someone’s path. Remembering how that belief affected me reminds me to be intentional with my own words and to look for opportunities to believe in others before they believe in themselves.
